How
to get
By air from Athens, Crete (Heraklio), Rhodes, Mykonos.
and from many cities in Europe
A bus to Fira meets most flights; the schedule is posted at the
bus stop, beside the airport entrance. A taxi to Fira costs
about 8 Euro.
By Ferry-boats from Piraeus (130 Nm), from Rafina, from
Thesaloniki, from other island of Cyclades, from Dodecanese,
from Crete, (Santorini Port Authorities + 30 286 22239)
In July and August, ferries connect several times a day with
Ios (1 to 2 hrs.), Naxos (3 hrs.), Paros (2 1/2 hrs. by
hydrofoil, 4 hrs. by car ferry), and Mykonos (4 to 6 hrs.);
almost daily with Anafi (2 hrs.) and Siros (3 hrs. by catamaran,
5 to 6 by hydrofoil or car ferry) five times a week with Sikinos
(1 hr.) and Folegandros (1 1/2 hrs.); and twice weekly with
Sifnos (3 to 4 hrs.). Service to Thessaloniki (17 to 24 hrs.) is
four to five times per week.
Almost all ferries now dock at Athinios, where buses meet each
boat, returning directly to the Fira station (the fare to Fira
is 1.5 Euro); from the Fira station, buses depart for numerous
other island destinations. Taxis are also available from
Athinios, at nearly five times the bus fare. |
